Dr. Joseph A. Walker
Dr.
Walker has written and published over twenty-five academic papers on education,
several of which examine aspects of the Bahamian educational system. He has written several papers on law
including a critical analysis of the legal myth of “Crown Ownership of Land” and
a thesis on “No Fault Divorces” concluding that its applications, in the
Caribbean Jurisdictions, represent style over substantive changes. He is the recipient of several academic awards. At Lakehead University, Canada, he received the Most Outstanding Student Award for two consecutive years for academic excellence. At Mico Teachers’ College, Jamaica, he was named Student of the Year for Academic Excellence. At the State University of Rochester, he was inducted into the University’s Honour Society for outstanding academic achievement during his Ph.D. programme. At University of the West Indies, Dr. Walker received the University’s award as the “Top Law Student in the Caribbean”. This award is presented to the student who has the best academic performance in law courses taken during that academic year across all UWI campuses. He is also the recipient of the Director’s Subject award for Constitutional Law and Criminal Law. He currently teaches LLB courses in Contract Law, Criminal Law and Legal Research. Dr. Walker was called to the Bahamian Bar in 2005 and has been employed with Dupuch & Turnquest since March 2006. Dr. Walker is married to the former Berthamae Fowler and they have two children, Jhoemae and Joseph, II. |
